Cusdis, an open-source comment system, has been created to be an easy-to-use alternative to Disqus. Even Cusdis
comes from the Disqus
spelled backward.
As an "ex-Disqus" user, I feel the author's pain. I understand that Disqus is a subsidiary of a large for-profit company, but I have always felt that "I am the product," even with a commercial license. With so many features of Disqus and visible branding for simple websites, the point of the page became the comments, not the article itself.
At just 12$ a year (down from 5$ a month), Cusdis is an affordable option that I'm happy to pay for, even for my hobby projects. One license gives you the option for 100 websites.
What I Like
- Easiness of installation
- It took me less than 20 minutes to complete the setup
- Price of just 1$ a month
- General feel
- An article is in the focus, not the commenting system
What I don't like
- Maybe a little too lightweight
- Somewhat laggy dashboard
Checkout Cusdis official website and star it on GitHub!
I plan to continue using Cusdis for a few months. If I encounter any issues or decide to switch to Utterance, I will provide a follow-up post.
